| Lead Story |
| $7B / 6.5 GW — Brookfield makes batteries infrastructure |
Storage has crossed into core infrastructure: Brookfield is buying contracted cash flow, development scale and grid optionality. |
• Brookfield agreed July 22 to acquire Aypa Power from Blackstone Energy Transition Partners for approximately $7B enterprise value and $3B equity value at closing — a scaled entry into the North American battery market. Aypa holds ~6.5 GW of operating, under-construction and contracted capacity, plus a development pipeline exceeding 20 GW. |
• The operating and under-construction portfolio is 95% contracted with investment-grade customers on a 17-year average remaining life; Brookfield also takes Aypa’s 35 projects and ~200-person development platform. Close is subject to customary approvals — no date, financing or EBITDA disclosed. |

| Data Centers |
| 3.2 GW / 1 GW flexible — OpenAI makes Georgia its power test |
• OpenAI’s Project Camellia in Effingham County, Georgia has Georgia Power contracted for up to 3.2 GW in phases from 2028–2032, with OpenAI providing up to 1,000 MW of flexible demand response under a 25-year deal that lets the utility curtail during grid stress. |
• OpenAI says it will pay the full cost of infrastructure and service — costs that under Georgia PSC rules cannot pass to existing customers — and committed $80M of community benefits plus up to $71M of Codex credits. The catch: campus ownership, financing and operating structure remain undisclosed. |

| Equipment |
| $24.2B / 116 GW — GE Vernova’s equipment book breaks open |
• GE Vernova booked $24.2B of Q2 orders, up 88% organically, lifting backlog roughly $13B to $176B; gas-turbine equipment in backlog or slot-reservation agreements rose to 116 GW from 100 GW, with data-center orders topping $5B YTD. |
• Revenue rose 22% to $11.1B, and the company raised 2026 revenue guidance to $45.5B–$46.5B and free-cash-flow guidance to $11.5B–$12.5B. Manufacturing capacity, not demand, is now the binding constraint. |

| M&A |
| $1.275B / 11,100 boe/d — Matador buys time in the Delaware |
• Matador will pay $1.275B cash for EnCap-backed Paloma Permian — 16,235 net undeveloped acres in Eddy and Lea counties, ~11,100 boe/d (57% oil) and 156-plus locations — and separately added Ridge Runner Woodford acreage to reach ~50,000 contiguous Woodford net acres and ~240,000 total Delaware acres. |
• Its Rae’s Creek Woodford well tested above 2,200 boe/d (72% oil). Funded with cash and the RBL, Matador guides to ~$1B of 2026 free cash flow and leverage back toward 1.0x within 12–18 months of closing. |

| Utilities |
| €5B / 89,000 km — Iberdrola buys Finland’s largest distribution grid |
• Iberdrola will pay €2B for 80% of Caruna, Finland’s largest electricity distributor, at ~€5B enterprise value including debt — an 89,000-km network (67% underground) serving ~1.5M people; pension investors AMF and Elo keep the remaining 20%. |
• Finland’s framework through 2031 offers ~8% return on equity, and Iberdrola sees Caruna’s regulated asset base growing ~7% a year as data centers and electrification lift demand. Close is targeted for Q1 2027, pending approvals. |
